Hi Stephen, Thank you again for your time earlier.
I'm currently developing a 10-hectare commercial pilot farm in Mogopa Village (Ventersdorp) under the Bakwena Ba Mogopa Trust. This is part of a broader vision to scale into a 100–200 hectare agro-innovation zone, with a focus on high-value essential oil crops, fodder, and regenerative farming techniques
We're starting with lucerne (3 ha) as a foundational fodder crop for goats and cattle, and are now exploring 1–2 resilient essential oil crops that offer high yield, stable demand, and strong market value — suited to first-time implementation but with long-term export or local processing potential.
The farm is adjacent to a 5-hectare site allocated to North-West University, which will manage their own agroecology trials. The two plots will share borehole infrastructure, so crop and layout decisions will factor in collaboration and sustainable water use.
You had mentioned that BioAfrica offers two support packages. Could you kindly share more info on those and how BioAfrica can assist with seedling supply, technical support, soil alignment, and potential offtake or processing partnerships?
This pilot is intended to serve as a blueprint for scalable development, so we're keen to work with partners like BioAfrica who understand both the science and business of medicinal crops.
Warm regards,
Kabelo More

Dear Kabelo
Thank you for giving BioAfrica a chance to show you two ways we can help
you get into *essential oils farming*. Essential oils are strong smells
from plants used in many products.
------------------------------
*Start with: The Full Financial Plan*
This option is like a *complete guide* to starting your essential oils
business.
- *7-Year Money Plan:* It shows you how much money you can expect to
make and spend over seven years. This helps you see if it's a good
investment.
- *Best Crops for You:* We'll tell you about 4 different crops that grow
really well in your local area and soil.
- *Step-by-Step Growing Guide:* You'll get a clear plan that covers
everything:
- Getting your soil ready
- Planting your crops
- When and how to harvest
- How to expertly get the oils out of the plants (distillation)
- *Guaranteed Buyers:* We'll show you who will buy your essential oils
for the next ten years, so you know there's a market for what you grow.
- *Good for Investors:* This plan is strong enough to show banks or any
other investors that your business is solid and will make money.
*Cost:* This detailed plan costs *R25,000.00* and needs to be paid upfront.
We'll visit your farm to gather information. This inspection trip will cost
R10 000.00 This is due to soil water samples. Etc and then email you the
full plan 10 working days after our visit. After this the next phase is
reached.
------------------------------
*Try It Out (Trial Phase)*
Implementation is for farmers who want to *learn by doing* before
committing to a large farm. We've seen that farmers who try a small project
first often become successful big producers.
- *Grow Small First:* You'll plant 3 or 4 different essential oil crops
on about *1 hectare (a small field) with irrigation*. This will happen
over one growing season.
- *Mobile Distillation:* We'll bring a special unit to your farm to turn
your plants into essential oils right there.
- *Cover Your Costs:* The money you make from selling the essential oils
from this trial should cover your expenses, and you might even make a small
profit!
- *Make Your Own Decision:* Once the trial is done, you'll have all the
real-world information you need to decide if you want to grow more.
*How Does This Option Work?*
- *What BioAfrica Provides:* We give you the *knowledge, seeds, and
distillation equipment*.
- *What You Provide:* You need the *land, water system (irrigation),
farm machinery, workers, and money* to make it happen.
- *Smart Farming System:* We have an *online system* where you'll record
everything about your crops – from photos to what you're doing. You can
send this information by email or smartphone. We'll then analyze it and
send you *weekly tasks*, like when to water, add fertilizer, or weed.
This helps us figure out how much oil you're getting and how good it is.
- *Flexible Payments:* You can pay the total cost upfront, or you can
make 10 monthly payments. We also offer a "pay-as-you-go" option where you
only pay for what you need, like just the seeds or just the distillation
service. We're flexible!
*What Does this Cost?*
The total cost for this trial phase is *R115,000.00*. Here's a breakdown:
- *Starter Pack (seeds, info, etc.):* R40,000
- *Planting:* R5,000
- *4 Months of Plant Care (guidance on what to do when):* R10,000 per
visit until harvest (the number of visits depends on the crops you choose).
- *Harvesting:* R10,000 per Ha
- *Distillation (mobile unit, BioAfrica staff for about a week):*
R20,000
- Our system uses technology for information. If we need to visit your
farm more often, each extra visit costs R5,000.
*What You Can Expect to Make*
The 3-4 crops on your 1-hectare trial should give you an average income of
*R60,000.00* when you sell the essential oils.
*About the Crops*
The crops we suggest are *perennial* (they grow back year after year) and
give a *high yield* (lots of oil). Most pests and animals don't like to eat
them because they have strong smells!
The crops are: *Chamomile, Marjoram, Lemon Balm, and Yarrow*.

We look forward to hearing what you think!
Many thanks,
Steph and Sphiwe for BioAfrica
